Vol. 449 No. 5

Written Answers. - Regional Fisheries Board Funding.

Brendan Smith

Ceist:

54 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for the Marine the funding that will be provided to each regional fisheries board under the Angling Tourism Programme 1994 to 1999. [3945/95]

I take it that the Deputy is referring to the tourism angling measure of the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-99 under which provision has been made for a comprehensive investment programme in the tourism angling product totalling almost IR£19 million over the six year period 1994 to 1999.

The Central Fisheries Board and the Department are charged with the responsibility for the administration and implementation of the tourism angling measure. The Central Fisheries Board is responsible for the day to day administration of the measure nationally with the Department having overall responsibility for its implementation.

The regional fisheries boards, by virtue of their particular responsibilities in relation to the development of inland fisheries, have submitted and will be submitting, a large number of applications under the tourism angling measure. Applications may also be made by other State agencies, community groups and private bodies and individuals.

The final allocation of funds as between the regions will depend on the outcome of a project by project assessment of the individual submissions received.
