Vol. 449 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dental Action Plan.

Thomas P. Broughan

Ceist:

71 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Health if he has satisfied himself with the operation of the new dental action plan in Dublin city in view of complaints from medical card holders that only basic dental treatments such as fillings and extractions are being carried out by dentists operating under the plan and that other forms of treatment must be paid for by public patients. [4125/95]

Limerick East): I am satisfied with the operation of the new dental treatment services scheme to date. The operation of the scheme is kept under review by a monitoring committee which addresses any issues arising.

Under the scheme emergency treatment is provided for all medical card holders and routine treatment is being extended to all medical card holders free-of-charge on a phased basis. Routine treatment includes oral health examinations, scaling and polishing, fillings, extractions, endodontic treatment, apicectomies, periodontal treatment and the provision and repairs of dentures.
