Vol. 449 No. 5

Written Answers. - Funding for Letterkenny Circular Road.

Declan Bree

Ceist:

75 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make moneys available to Donegal County Council for the completion of the circular road in Letterkenny, County Donegal; and if he will also make money available in the 1995 Estimates for this purpose. [4047/95]

As the project concerned involves a local road, responsibility for its completion is a matter for Letterkenny Urban District Council. In the normal way, the cost would fall to be met by the council from its own resources, supplemented by the annual block grant from my Department.

Under the EU co-financed scheme of grants for non-national roads, 19 applications have been submitted by Donegal County Council, on behalf of local authorities in the county, for funding in 1995. These include a request for £100,000 towards the completion of the Circular Road in Letterkenny for which a further £120,000 would be required next year. In all, these applications entail an estimated expenditure of £3.593 million in 1995. I am now examining the applications from local authorities generally and hope to notify grant allocations in the near future.
