Vol. 449 No. 5

Written Answers. - Ballygunner (Waterford) School Expansion.

Helen Keogh

Ceist:

83 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has for the expansion of Ballygunner national school, Waterford, where 53 children had to be refused enrolment in this academic year and which is among only 3 per cent of national schools whose catchment areas are increasing in population.[4072/95]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 147 of 14 February 1995 in which I stated that my Department is aware of the need for additional accommodation at this school and that a project was being considered for inclusion in the 1995 Capital Programme for National Schools, the details of which are being finalised at present.

The local district inspector has also been requested to assess the short and long term demand for primary places in this area of Waterford City. The future accommodation needs of the school will be re-examined in the light of this assessment.
