Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - Finglas (Dublin) Garda Station.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

131 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice if there were only two gardaí on duty in Finglas Garda station, Dublin 11, on the evening of Saturday, 4 March 1995; if there have been a number of occasions recently when this station has been understaffed; the recommended staffing level for Finglas; the reason for the understaffing on the specified date; if she will give an undertaking that adequate staffing levels will be provided at all times; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5414/95]

I am informed that when the Deputy phoned Finglas Garda station, at about 7 p.m. on the evening in question, the station was operating considerably under strength due to sick leave absences and other factors.

I will need to make further inquiries about the matter of the Garda authorities in order to give the Deputy a more complete response and provide the reassurance she seeks. I will write to the Deputy when my inquiries have been completed, hopefully in the near future.
