Vol. 451 No. 7

Written Answers. - General Health Bill.

Noel Treacy

Ceist:

58 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Health the progress, if any, he has made on the General Health Bill; and whether statutory provision will be made for counselling for pregnant women. [7016/95]

Limerick East): I am currently considering what amendments are required to the Health Act, 1970 which may be included either in the legislation for new organisational structures, at present in early stages of preparation, or in a separate general health Bill, if the scope of the amendments makes a separate Bill necessary.

I have informed the House on 9 March that I will consider whether it is appropriate to provide a statutory basis for the support of pregnancy counselling. If it is decided that it would be appropriate to deal with this matter through statute, I will include the necessary provisions in the legislation providing for the general amendment of the Health Act, 1970.
