Vol. 451 No. 7

Written Answers. - Naturalisation Applications.

Seamus Brennan

Ceist:

99 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Justice if she will make a statement on the circumstances surrounding the persistent refusal of naturalisation to two doctors and their two children (details supplied) in Dublin 16; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the family has lived and worked in Ireland for over ten years and the children have received most of their education in the Irish school system and are learning Irish on the same basis as other pupils; her views on whether the continued refusal of her Department to grant naturalisation is causing stress and inconvenience in view of the fact that permanent medical posts cannot be offered to these doctors without naturalisation; and her further views on the strong personal recommendations which have been offered from medical and religious personnel. [7175/95]

I am reviewing the applications of the persons in question. I will contact the Deputy again when I have made a decision in the matter.

I should point out that an applicant's ability to practice as a medical doctor in this State is not, of itself, affected by naturalisation or otherwise. In order to practice as a medical doctor they must be registered by the Medical Council.
