Vol. 451 No. 7

Written Answers. - Bilateral Trade Organisations.

David Andrews

Ceist:

105 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the measures, if any, currently being taken to utilise bilateral trade organisations based in Ireland by An Bord Trachtála. [7164/95]

I understand the Deputy is referring to such bodies as the German-Irish and Spanish-Irish Chambers of Commerce, established to promote and develop trade between Ireland and other countries. An Bord Tráchtála, ABT, has a very close working relationship with all of these bilateral trade organisations and has a representative on many of the organisations' councils.

A good example of such co-operation is the formal relationship which exists between ABT and the Japanese External Trade Relations Organisation, JETRO, where the latter has placed an experienced Japanese business executive with ABT to work with Irish companies in developing exports to Japan.
