Vol. 452 No. 3

Written Answers. - Radioactive Contamination.

Seamus Brennan

Ceist:

128 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Education if investigations by the Dublin Institute of Technology and its constituent college at Kevin Street, Dublin, into the unauthorised use of radioactive substances in the Department of Biological Sciences in the latter institution were thoroughly conducted by appropriately qualified investigators; if all persons working in the affected areas were interviewed; the reason the results of these investigations have not been released; and the reason Dublin Institute of Technology waited for more than one year after the discovery of radioactive contamination in the Dublin Institute of Technology, Kevin Street, before referring affected staff for medical testing. [8042/95]

In accordance with the terms of the Dublin Institute of Technology Act, 1992 the governance and day to day operations of the Dublin Institute of Technology are matters appropriate to the governing body and the management of the Institute.

I have referred the issues raised by the Deputy to the Dublin Institute of Technology and I will be in further contact with him when I have received their reply.
