Vol. 452 No. 3

Written Answers. - EU Premium Schemes.

Eamon Walsh

Ceist:

154 Mr. E. Walsh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of farmers who have been or will be prosecuted for making fraudulent claims for £2 million EU payments. [7911/95]

I assume the Deputy's question relates to a possible disallowance of £2 million by the EU in respect of the operation of premia schemes in 1992. I should point out to the Deputy that the accounts for the year in question have not been closed, nor has a final disallowance figure for this matter been determined. When a final figure is determined the question of recovery of such amounts from farmers and any further action including possible prosecutions in the event of evidence regarding fraudulent claims being available, will be pursued.
