Vol. 452 No. 3

Written Answers. - Bishopstown (Cork) Swimming Complex.

Máirín Quill

Ceist:

64 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Education when her Department will grant approval for commencement of work on the construction of the proposed swimming complex at Bishopstown, Cork; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7651/95]

In 1988 a grant of £1.75 million was allocated to Cork Corporation under my Department's major sports facilities programme for the provision of a 25-metre swimming pool complex with other ancillary indoor sports facilities.

Planning for the project has been undertaken by a design team, commissioned by Cork Corporation, as client, in consultation with my Department.

The present position is that tenders for the project and proposals for the management and operation of the complex, which have been received from Cork Corporation, are being considered by my Department. Cork Corporation's request for additional funding towards the project cost is also being considered. It is expected that my Department's examination of these issues will be completed in the near future.
