Vol. 452 No. 3

Written Answers. - EU Funding.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

107 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment if the proposed Ballincollig by-pass was included in the most recent or in any application to the EU for regional funding; if so, when the request was made; and the response which has been given. [8047/95]

The Operational Programme for Transport 1994-99, approved by the European Commission on 29 July 1995, provides the strategic framework for assistance from the European Regional Development Fund for transport infrastructure projects. Chapter 3 of the programme sets out the strategy for the development of the national primary network focusing on four key corridors — which includes the N22 as a link route to the North-South corridor. Annex 2A to the programme contains a list of indicative projects which may be submitted for EU assistance, though inclusion on the list does not imply that a project will in fact be submitted or approved for EU aid. Other projects may also be put forward provided that they meet the relevant project selection criteria. Within the overall framework, the selection of national road projects to be funded under the programme is a matter for the National Road Authority.
