Vol. 453 No. 1

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 30 from Deputy Ned O'Keeffe. I call on Deputy O'Keeffe to state the matter of which he has given me notice.

I request the Adjournment of the Dáil to debate a matter relating to the dumping of waste in Cork. I call on the Minister for the Environment to advise Cork County Council to withdraw from dumping waste at Ballinguyroe Tiphead, near Kildorrery in County Cork and to withhold planning permission until a new site more suitable for refuse dumping has been identified.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move this motion.

I am not questioning your judgment.

It is not in order to intervene now.

As the water supply, homes and livelihoods of the people in that area are under threat, it is important the matter is brought before Dáil Éireann.

There are many ways of raising this matter, it is not of an urgent nature.
