Vol. 453 No. 1

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Lynch — the need to provide a comprehensive and integrated rehabilitation programme for offenders, both during and after sentencing; (2) Deputy Martin — the need to take a fresh initiative to resolve the impasse with the teachers' unions on the issue of early retirement for teachers; (3) Deputy O'Donoghue — the violent attacks on newsagents and grocery shops and the serious financial losses incurred by such businesses as a result of crime, and (4) Deputy O'Dea — the crisis in the courts due to the backlog of family law cases. All four matters are considered to be in order and have been selected accordingly,. For the information of Members the matters will be taken in the following order Deputies Martin, Lynch, O'Donoghue and O'Dea.
