Vol. 453 No. 1

Written Answers. - Powered Boat Regulations.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

96 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for the Marine if he has considered the recent submission to his Department by Westmeath County Council recommending that certain lakes in County Westmeath be designated by regulation as areas considered as unsuitable for jet skis and fast power boats, with special allowances for any designated boats used for search and rescue or training for search and rescue; if he will indicate when he is likely to make a formal decision in relation to this submission; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9009/95]

Department officials are currently liaising with Westmeath County Council in relation to their recent submission. Subject to clarification of certain issues arising from the council's proposals, I would hope to be in a position to make a decision on this complicated matter within a matter of weeks.
