Vol. 453 No. 3

Written Answers. - Student Safety.

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

156 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice the steps, if any, she will take to ensure that students of a school (details supplied) in Dublin 20 can be guaranteed safe passage to the bus stop in the vicinity of their school in view of the continuing muggings and robberies they have experienced over the last two years; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9419/95]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that as a result of recent complaints to the Garda concerning incidents at King's Hospital School, certain measures have been put in place to address the situation. They include extra patrolling of the area, and the appointment of a member to liaise with the school authorities to co-ordinate the various aspects of this security policy.

These patrols have proved successful and a number of arrests have been made and property recovered. Gardaí will continue to monitor the situation carefully and take whatever action they deem necessary.
