Vol. 454 No. 3

Written Answers. - Pension Rights.

Declan Bree

Ceist:

172 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when his Department will supply a person (details supplied) in County Sligo with details relating to his pensionable service with the Pigs and Bacon Commission, by which he was employed during the period 7 July 1967 to 28 January 1972; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the provision of this information will enable the service to be taken into account and reckoned for superannuation purposes; if the records relating to former employees of the Pigs and Bacon Commission are still on file and under the control of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10662/95]

The person referred to was employed in the Pigs and Bacon Commission as a clerical officer, grade III. In 1982 the Government decided that the State should accept responsibility for the pension liabilities of a number of former officials of the Pigs and Bacon Commission. The person referred to was not included in these pension liabilities.

There was a superannuation scheme operating in the Pigs and Bacon Commission which is now administered by Irish Pensions Trust Limited. Information supplied by Irish Pensions Trust Limited shows that contributions were made by the person concerned between 1 April 1968 and 25 February 1972. Inquiries are ongoing in this case, which is somewhat complicated. My Department hopes to finalise the question as to whether this person's service with the Pigs and Bacon Commission can be reinstated for pension purposes in the near future. In that regard I will be in touch with the Deputy.
