175 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the funding, if any, which has been provided from INTERREG for the ESB; the plans, if any, he has for this funding; the further plans, if any, he has to connect endpoints on this side of the Border to endpoints on the Northern side of the Border; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The ESB has received approximately £1 million to date from the INTERREG 1 programme fund. The moneys were allocated for expenditure on three projects involving strengthening of electricity networks in the Border areas and the completion of two standby or emergency 110kV interconnections between the NIE and ESB systems at Swanlinbar — Enniskillen and Strabane-Letterkenny. An application for funding for the ESB for a number of projects in the Border areas under the INTERREG 2 programme will be submitted shortly.
