Vol. 454 No. 3

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 30 from Deputy Lawlor. I call on the Deputy to state the matter of which he has given notice.

I request the adjournment of the Dáil to deal with the matter of the public acquisition of the house, lands and gardens at Beech Park, Clonsilla, Dublin 15, which are in the hands of the Shackleton family and due to be sold at public auction on Thursday, 15 June and to ask the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht to make available immediately to the House the recommendations of the National Heritage Council and the Government's decision thereon recognising that the renowned Beech Park gardens are ranked as the fourth most important gardens on these islands and the twelfth most important in Europe; their loss to the public would be a major blow to heritage preservation.

The matter, having been fully considered, is not considered to be one contemplated by the Standing Order and, therefore, cannot grant leave to move the motion.

I disagree with that assessment.
