Vol. 454 No. 3

Written Answers. - Galway Coastal Erosion.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Ceist:

188 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for the Marine when a decision will be made regarding the submission he received from Galway County Council for funding for coastal erosion in County Galway; and when a decision will be made regarding the application for funding for coastal erosion protection works in Inishbofin, Roundstone and Tawin, County Galway. [10667/95]

As I indicated to the House during the course of last week's Private Members' motion on coastal protection, the proposals submitted to the Department of the Marine will be assessed having regard to rates of erosion, benefits arising, nature of works required, outline design required and the cost. Given the detailed nature of the assessment required, the need for further discussion with a number of local authorities and the need to visit the locations in question, the assessment will take a couple of months to complete. Only at that stage will decisions be made in relation to the projects to be undertaken over the next number of years.
