Vol. 454 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Ceist:

46 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Education whether it is intended to extend the school transport system to Manin, Ballyconneely, County Galway, in view of the fact that there are eight children under ten years of age from this area attending Ballyconneely school and the manner in which the school bus service is now run means that these children have to walk a considerable distance. [11100/95]

I understand that there is a school transport service currently in operation to Ballyconneely national school. A spur off this main route to the Manin area was withdrawn some time ago, due to falling numbers of eligible children offering for transport from the area. The local Bus Éireann office is not aware of any application having been made to extend the current service to Manin. My Department will, however, investigate the matter with Bus Éireann on receipt of the names and addresses of the children concerned. The Deputy will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible.
