Vol. 455 No. 1

Written Answers. - Staff Shortages.

Seán Haughey

Ceist:

61 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the staff shortages at Peamount Hospital, Newcastle, County Dublin, which is affecting the service provided for the mentally handicapped patients involved; the measures, if any, he proposes to take to rectify this situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11642/95]

Responsibility for services in Peamount Hospital is primarily a matter for the Eastern Health Board. My Department has, recently been in contact with the board and the management in Peamount Hospital concerning a number of issues including staffing levels, relating to the services provided to persons with mental handicap. I have recently arranged for my Department's nursing adviser to carry out a review of staffing levels in the mental handicap service.
