Vol. 455 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cavan School Staffing.

Brendan Smith

Ceist:

103 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Education if she will review the decision to reduce the number of teachers in a school (details supplied) in County Cavan in view of the need to retain four teachers in this school and of the benefits that would accrue to the pupils. [11808/95]

The staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous year. This is in accordance with an agreement on staffing which has been entered into between the Government and the INTO.

The enrolment of the school referred to by the Deputy on 30 September 1994 was 88 pupils. This enrolment warrants a staffing in the 1995-96 school year of a principal and two assistants only.

The third assistant's post will be suppressed at the end of the current school year. The teacher in question has been placed on the diocesan panel for re-deployment.
