143 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Education the criteria used in contracting courier services for the distribution of examination papers; if eligible companies are invited to tender on a regular basis; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12036/95]
In order to compete for the contracts for transporting materials in connection with the certificate examinations, including the contract for distributing examination papers, transport companies must be able to provide a high-quality, reliable and secure nationwide delivery/collection service. Eligible companies are invited to tender for the transport contracts on an annual basis.
In dealing with public contracts for the transport of examination related materials my Department is aware of the need to obtain the services of reputable and reliable companies in the context of fair commercial competition with the objective of securing full value for public funds.
