Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

177 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Marine the international treaties and conventions he intends to sign; the number that have been signed; the number that have been signed but not ratified; the number signed which have been ratified but have not been put into force; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12009/95]

The Department has no plans at present to sign any international treaties or conventions. The Department has signed, but not ratified, the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the north-east Atlantic. A Bill to give effect in domestic law to the convention is currently with the parliamentary draftsman. The Department has not signed any international treaties or conventions which have been ratified but not put into force.
