Vol. 455 No. 2

Written Answers. - North-West Study.

James McDaid

Ceist:

40 Dr. McDaid asked the Minister for Finance the position regarding the north-west study; and if he will consider funding for its implementation. [11362/95]

The North-West Study was commissioned by the North-West Region Cross-Border Group with the aim of setting out a preliminary economic development strategy for the region. This in turn led on to a more detailed development programme for the North-West Region set out in A Window of Opportunity, which was published last year.

The development programme set out a comprehensive approach to meeting the perceived needs of the region. The group distributed copies of the programme to the various sectoral Departments and agencies involved and bilateral contacts between the group and individual Departments in relation to the specific proposals put forward have been made. The individual elements of the programme fall to be addresssed under the various operational programmes of the 1994-99 Community Support Framework together with Community initiatives where relevant, in addition to the North's Single Programme Document.
