Vol. 455 No. 2

Written Answers. - Secretaries' Meeting.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

42 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance the purpose and outcome of the meeting of Secretaries of Government Departments at Tinakilly House. [11235/95]

The purpose of the conference for secretaries and heads of Departments, which has been held annually since 1985, is to discuss and evaluate the major issues affecting the management of the Civil Service.

As regards the outcome of the 1995 conference, which was held on 13 and 14 June, the secretaries focused principally on the following issues: the approach to strengthening and deepening the strategic management initiative across the Civil and Public Service; the nature and extent of the Civil Service reform programme currently being developed by the Co-ordinating Group of Secretaries on the Strategic Management Initiative for submission to Government at an early date; the current state of the economy and its implications for Departments and general issues relating to the management of the Civil Service.
