Vol. 455 No. 2

Written Answers. - Disciplinary Procedures.

Mary Harney

Ceist:

44 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to change the disciplinary procedures that apply to public servants who have been found to be negligent in the performance of their duties. [11228/95]

My response to this question is confined to the Civil Service, as my responsibility in this matter does not extend to the wider public service. In so far as the Civil Service is concerned, there are standard disciplinary procedures for dealing with civil servants who have been found to be negligent in the performance of their official duties. I have no plans to change these procedures. However, as indicated in the answer to a separate question, all aspects of personnel management in the Civil Service, including the somewhat cumbersome tenure arrangements, are currently under examination in the context of the strategic management initiative and I hope to be in a position to report on the outcome to those deliberations later in the year.
