Vol. 455 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Plan Review.

Seamus Kirk

Ceist:

46 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Finance the proposals, if any, he has to bring forward the proposed mid-term review of the National Plan in view of the success of the peace process. [11364/95]

I presume the Deputy is referring to the Community Support Framework for Ireland, 1994-99 which was negotiated on the basis of the National Plan submitted to the Commission. The Community Support Framework provides for a mid-term review which will take place in the first half of 1997. I consider it would be inappropriate to bring forward the mid-term review of the Community Support Framework at this stage. However, I have asked Departments responsible for the various operational programmes under the framework to examine the possibilities for refocussing their programmes in the light of the proposals put forward under the Programme for Peace and Reconciliation. I do not envisage that a major recasting of programmes will be necessary. The Departments concerned will examine possibilities such as advancing the timing of projects located within the Border region and increased opportunities for cross-Border co-operation.
