Vol. 455 No. 7

Estimates, 1995. - Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Broughan — whether the forthcoming EU urban funding being allocated to north Dublin will include adequate funding for the Darndale-Belcamp area action plan as supported by the northside partnership company; (2) Deputy Ó Cuív — the need for extra funding to be provided to Galway County Council under the local improvement scheme to enable it to carry out necessary works on non-county roads; (3) Deputy Ned O'Keeffe — the failure of the Department of Health and the Southern Health Board to sanction the appointment of a resident doctor under the general medical services scheme for Killavullen, County Cork, and the need to deal with this case as a matter of urgency; (4) Deputy O'Dea — the progress that has been made in reducing the consumption of tobacco in view of the recently published statistics on deaths due to smoking; (5) Deputy Michael Kitt — the need to sanction the contract for the Williamstown sewerage scheme, County Galway; (6) Deputy Sargent — the need to propose that the former republics of Yugoslavia be offered membership of the EU in return for a total cease-fire; (7) Deputy O'Hanlon — the abolition of health board grants towards the cost of dental treatment for social welfare contributors who are medical card holders; (8) Deputy Geoghegan-Quinn — the new revelations in relation to the hepatitis C controversy and the failure to initiate an independent inquiry into the transfusions which have taken place with potentially infected blood; (9) Deputy Séamus Brennan — the need for a full statement on the sale of Telecom Éireann shares to foreign investors; (10) Deputy Flanagan — the recent important discovery of a ninth century Viking ship fortress at Vickarstown, County Laois, which has been recognised as a major archaeological development; (11) Deputy Hugh Byrne — the urgent need for the completion of a promised review of the decision to suspend the control of the farm pollution scheme in view of the heightened danger of farm pollution during the summer months; (12) Deputy Ray Burke — the rapidly deteriorating situation in Bosnia and the lack of action by the Irish Government in the matter; (13) Deputy Cowen — the need for the contracts to be signed to enable the much delayed Leader II programme to commence in view of the importance of this programme for rural development in Ireland and the fact that it was to commence on 1 January 1995 and (14) Deputy Michael Ahern — the current status of the health insurance regulations. The matters raised by Deputies Burke, O'Hanlon, Geoghegan-Quinn and Brennan have been selected for discussion.

I call Deputy Burke to make his contribution.
