Vol. 457 No. 1

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 30 from Deputy O'Donoghue.

I seek permission to move the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 30 to discuss allegations of surveillance made by the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications in view of the fact that it has been brought to my attention that a final written report has been completed by a garda investigating these allegations.

The matter, having been considered fully, is not considered to be one contemplated by the Standing Order and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

On a point or order, this is of fundamental importance because the Minister stated in the House last week that the investigations into this matter were ongoing. If this report was completed prior to making that statement, the Minister misled the House.

This matter is ongoing. As the House will be aware, it will be dealt with during Private Members' Business tonight.
