56 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Marine the amount expended to date on the construction of the Loran C radio mast at Loop Head, County Clare; when it will be completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14711/95]
The construction of the Loran C radio navigation station at Loop Head has not commenced due to a lengthy planning and legal process and there has, therefore, been no expenditure to date in this regard. A recent High Court judgment held that the Commissioners of Irish Lights, who are acting as agents for the Department of the Marine in this matter, do not have the necessary legal powers to undertake the construction of the Loran C station. I am currently considering the implications of the judgment and the options available to me. Until the legal difficulties have been resolved it is not possible to say when the work may be commenced or completed.
