Vol. 457 No. 1

Written Answers. - Balbriggan and Skerries Fishing Industry.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

61 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Marine the progress, if any, being made in his Department to ensure that Dublin Port make amends for the long years of neglect suffered by the commercial fishing industry in Balbriggan and Skerries prior to the enactment of the Harbours Bill, 1995. [14954/95]

In preparation for the transfer of Skerries and Balbriggan Harbours to Fingal County Council as provided for in the Harbours Bill, 1995, I have asked the engineers in my Department to examine the harbours of Skerries and Balbriggan and report back to me. Following this assessment I will be in a better position to identify works which may be necessary to bring the harbours up to a good state of repair. I then intend to consider with Dublin Port and Docks Board the priority needs of these harbours and how these can be addressed in the context of the transfer of these harbours to Fingal County Council.
