Vol. 457 No. 6

Written Answers. - Indicative Drug Prescribing Scheme.

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

65 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Health the estimated amount which general practitioners and health boards will have available to invest in general practice in 1996 under the indicative drug prescribing scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15898/95]

Limerick East): The amount of investment available to general practitioners and heath boards in 1996 is contingent on the amount of savings to be achieved under the indicative drugs target scheme in 1995.

Given that information on GMS prescribing has yet to be processed for a number of months of this year, I am reluctant to make a prediction on the level of savings likely to be achieved in the current year.

I will, however, communicate with the Deputy when I am in a position to give a definitive reply.
