Vol. 457 No. 8

Written Answers. - Land Rezoning.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

142 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Justice the progress, if any, being made in the investigation of alleged corruption in relation to land rezoning; and if immunity from prosecution will be allowed for key witnesses to ensure that necessary additional information becomes available. [16549/95]

At the request of the Government, the Garda authorities are investigating media reports of allegations of corrupt practice in the planning process and in the course of this investigation have met representatives of the firm of solicitors named in these reports. In the course of discussions, the question of immunity from prosecution for some people was raised. The Garda indicated to the solicitors that this was a matter for decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions on receipt of the Garda investigation file.

Garda investigations are continuing.
