Vol. 457 No. 8

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Michael Ferris

Ceist:

160 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the hardship caused to small family farms who have failed to have their milk quotas restored by his Department at the end of the milk cessation scheme period; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16468/95]

It was the primary condition of participation in voluntary milk cessation schemes that the outgoing producer must definitively discontinue milk production and give up future entitlement to a milk quota. In return financial compensation for the quantity of quota surrendered was paid to the producer. My Department cannot restore quotas thus surrendered.
