Vol. 457 No. 8

Written Answers. - Standardised Unemployment Rates.

Bertie Ahern

Ceist:

15 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Taoiseach if there will be any revision of the percentage of the Labour Force deemed to be unemployed on a standardised basis for international comparison purposes in view of the recent Labour Force survey. [16041/95]

The monthly Standardised Unemployment Rates (SURs) published by the CSO are routinely updated to take account of the following:

1. The preliminary results of the most recent annual Labour Force Survey (LFS) based on respondents' own assessment of their Principal Economic Status (i.e. at work, unemployment, etc.) which are issued annually in October.

2. The detailed final results of the LFS, which classify persons employed and unemployed on the internationally comparable basis recommended by the ILO.

3. The six-monthly updating of the seasonal adjustment of the Live Register.

The Live Register Statement issued by the CSO on Friday, 3 November included revised unemployment rates based on the detailed April 1994 LFS results and the preliminary April 1995 estimates.
