46 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Education the timeframe for the formulation and implementation of a code of practice designed to regulate private colleges as outlined in the recent White Paper, and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16159/95]
In addition to the commitment in the White Paper on Education to publish a code of practice for private colleges the 1995 Finance Bill also provides for tax relief for fees paid to private colleges in respect of approved courses. This relief will take effect in the 1996-97 tax year in respect of fees paid in the 1996-97 academic year.
For the purpose of the tax relief it will be necessary for me to approve colleges and courses which satisfy a code of standards to be determined by me with the approval of the Minister for Finance. I expect that this code of standards should be available early in 1996.
