Vol. 457 No. 8

Written Answers. - Student Service Charges.

Batt O'Keeffe

Ceist:

52 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education the concerns, if any, she has regarding the £135 student services charge for CERT students within the regional technical college sector. [15870/95]

At the outset I must state that this is not a new charge. The standard practice for a number of years now has been for CERT students to pay a charge which covers registration, examinations, capitation and insurance. This charge varies from college to college and ranges from £35 to £135 per student.

This charge is a matter appropriate to CERT and the colleges. The students in question are recruited through CERT which pays the tuition fees to the colleges for both full time and part time students. All full time students receive a weekly training allowance, which is not means tested, from CERT.
