Mary Wallace

Ceist:

57 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education the current status of the Education Boards Bill; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17560/95]

The education boards Bill is now at an advanced stage of preparation. It is my intention to bring forward proposals to Government in this regard in the near future.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

58 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education the current status of the National Education and Training Certification Board Bill; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17561/95]

TEASTAS — the Irish National Certification Authority — was established on an ad hoc basis on 18 September last, so that the important work of providing a more coherent and effective system of certification in the non-university sector can be progressed without delay. Among the terms of reference of the interim authority is to advise the Minister for Education on the legislative framework to establish TEASTAS on a statutory basis. I will be framing legislation in the light of this advice, and my objective is to bring forward the necessary legislation in the latter half of next year.
