Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 30 dealing with two different topics. I propose to deal with the topics separately and will call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office. In regard to the first topic I received notice from Deputy Tom Kitt and now call on him to state the matter of which he has given notice.
Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.
I seek the Adjournment of the House under Standing Order 30 to discuss the following matter: the failure of the Government to bring forward legislation on Sunday trading which has resulted in another threatened strike at Dunnes Stores.
Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
This is promised legislation.
Give him a free voucher.
It comes under the Minister's responsibility.
If it is promised legislation it can appropriately be raised on the Order of Business. The matter has been ongoing for some time.
I received notice from Deputy Dempsey and now call on him to state the matter of which he has given notice.
I seek the Adjournment of the House to discuss the following serious matter: the gross insensitivity of the Government in appointing the chief executive of Shell Ireland to the board of CIE in view of that company's involvement in the ongoing Nigerian controversy.
Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by Standing Order 30 and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
They were cleared by Iveagh House.
