Vol. 460 No. 5

Written Answers. - Airport Charges.

Batt O'Keeffe

Ceist:

93 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the initiatives, if any, he proposes to take in respect of the ongoing dispute between Aer Rianta and Ryanair in relation to surcharges. [1671/96]

Aer Rianta's basic charges to airlines at Dublin, Shannon and Cork airports have remained unchanged since April 1987. The company introduced discounts in these charges with effect from 1 January 1994 and extended these discounts with effect from 1 January 1995.

I have approved a new range of discounts in airport charges with effect from 1 January 1996, in the interests of keeping access costs into and out of Ireland for tourists and others to the minima and improving overall economic competitiveness. These discounts apply to all airlines using the three State airports.
