Vol. 460 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Hospitals.

Michael Ferris

Ceist:

129 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to recent newspaper reports which referred to possible closures of acute hospitals in south Tipperary; the plans, if any, he has to have £12 million spent in Clonmel, Cashel and Tipperary town in order that people can be reassured; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1773/96]

Limerick East): As I have stated publicly on a number of occasions, I have no proposals to close any hospitals. I assure the Deputy that my policy on this remains unchanged. In relation to health services for south Tipperary, I welcome the agreement recently concluded whereby an extensive programme for health service developments will proceed. The programme involves service developments in Clonmel, Cashel and Tipperary town. I assure the Deputy and the people of south Tipperary of my continuing support for this package. I am prepared to provide £12.5 million for investment in south Tipperary to support this development programme.
