Vol. 460 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Galway School Water Supply.

Noel Treacy

Ceist:

178 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Education the reason a proper water supply is not connected to a school (details supplied) in County Galway; if she will take immediate action to have this facility fully connected to the school not later than 31 January 1996; the date on which works will commence; the nature of the works to be executed; the amount of money being allocated; if she has satisfied herself with this situation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1825/96]

My Department sanctioned a grant in June 1995 towards the cost of providing a water pump and sterilising and filtering system at the school to which the Deputy refers. The system installed has subsequently proven to be inadequate for the school's requirements. My Department's professional advisers are currently investigating the feasibility of connecting to a county council well some distance from the school and a report in the matter is expected very shortly. It is not possible at this time to state the nature of works, their cost or when they will commence, but every effort is being made to resolve this situation as soon as possible.
