Vol. 460 No. 6

Written Answers. - Food Promotion Incentives.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

234 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the specific incentives, if any, that are in place for restaurant proprietors for food promotion in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1815/96]

Under An Bord Bia Act, 1994, responsibility for food promotion and marketing is vested in An Bord Bia. It is my understanding that although the board does not operate any specific incentive schemes for restaurant proprietors, its 1996 programmes involve a number of specific dimensions in relation to food promotion in the restaurant sector. Foremost among these is a recipe competition with the Restaurant Association of Ireland as part of the international food event, Horizons 96. Other activities include sponsorship of Euro-Toques and of four Egon Ronay awards. In addition the on-going services of the board's food advisory centre are available to restaurants and caterers.
