Vol. 461 No. 1

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 30 which deal with two topics. I propose to deal with the topics separately and will call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices.

I request the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 30 to investigate as a matter of urgency the irregularities that have been discovered at North Cork Community Radio in regard to the operation of a lottery licence and the calling of a meeting under the Friendly Societies Act which is a cause of public concern. The Register of Friendly Societies, under the Minister for Enterprise and Employment, the Revenue Commissioners, under the Minister for Finance, and the Departments of Transport, Energy and Communications and Justice should seek to have these matters investigated.

The matter, having been considered fully, is not considered to be one contemplated by Standing Order 30. Therefore, leave cannot be granted to move the motion.

I request the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 30 to raise the need for an immediate debate on the circumstances which led to 46 students from 29 schools throughout the country receiving no credits for the craftwork section of the 1995 leaving certificate art examination, on the failure of the rechecking system to uncover this fact and on the need for the Minister for Education to take steps to restore public confidence in the integrity of the State examinations system given the appalling trauma and upset caused to the students, parents and teachers involved in this case.

The matter, having been considered fully, is not considered to be one contemplated by Standing Order 30 and, therefore, leave cannot be granted to move the motion.
