I propose to take Questions Nos. 202 to 205, inclusive, together.

Restrospective equal treatment payments are made to married women who were receiving certain social welfare payments during the period December 1984 to November 1986. The people concerned were among a number of married women who engaged the services of solicitors to initiate legal proceedings to obtain equal treatment arrears. Arrears due on those claims were processed in accordance with a schedule agreed with counsel for the plaintiffs. Court orders specified the dates on which computations were to be submitted to the relevant solicitors. The orders provided for payments to be made within 14 days of the settlements being agreed.
In accordance with the relevant court order, the computation of the arrears due to the people concerned was forwarded to their solicitors on 19 January 1996. When the settlements are agreed, payments will be made through the solicitors within 14 days. In the meantime, thay are advised to contact their solicitors regarding any inquiry they may have about their claim.
