Vol. 461 No. 1

Written Answers - County Louth Housing Statistics.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

108 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment the number of local authority houses that will be provided by Louth County Council, Dundalk Urban District Council and Drogheda Corporation in conjunction with his Department in 1996 giving details of the houses in the course of construction, houses completed, types of houses and proposed location; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2297/96]

Housing authorities will be notified shortly of the number of their authorised housing starts in 1996. The types of houses to be built and their location are matters entirely for decision by the individual housing authorities.

In addition to the new starts for 1996, local authorities generally will, during the year, be completing construction of houses from their authorised programmes for earlier years. Returns from the authorities in County Louth indicate the following position in relation to houses under construction at 31 December 1995:

Louth County Council:

scheme of 10 houses at Church view, Dromiskin and scheme of 12 houses at Callystown, Clogher Head.

Drogheda Corporation:

scheme of 20 houses at Marley's Lane and scheme of 17 houses at Brickfields.

Dundalk U.D.C.:

None.

I have no information at this stage on the number of houses these authorities may have completed so far this year.
