Vol. 461 No. 1

Written Answers - Telecom Éireann Masts.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

109 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the widespread concern by private property owners arising from the extensive construction of telecommunications masts by Telecom Éireann and other private communication companies; and his views on whether it is necessary to review the Local Government (Planning and Development) Regulations, 1994, with a view to imposing further restrictions on these developments particularly in the context of their proximity to private residential property. [2311/96]

Under the regulations referred to, development consisting of the erection of communications masts requires planning permission. My Department has recently issued draft guidelines in relation to the planning issues associated with communications masts for the guidance of planning authorities and developers. Interested parties have been invited to comment on the draft guidelines before 29 February 1996. The guidelines, in their final form, will issue as soon as possible thereafter when the comments received have been considered.
