Vol. 461 No. 5

Written Answers. - EU Roads Funding.

Gerard Collins

Ceist:

100 Mr. Collins asked the Minister for the Environment when funds under the EU co-financed scheme will be made available for the improvement of public roads in the Kilmeady-Ashford area of County Limerick in view of the deplorable condition of these roads and the large number of poultry producers living in the area. [3340/96]

Total grant allocations of £4.767 million for non-national roads were notified to Limerick County Council recently, including an allocation of £100,000 for Kantoher in the Kilmeedy area under the EU co-financed scheme of grants. It is also open to the council to use their own resources on the improvement of roads in this area and-or part of the restoration improvement grant of £2.135 million or the discretionary improvement grant of £371,000, recently notified to them.

Total road grants allocated to the council in 1996 represent an increase of £635,000, or 15 per cent on the 1995 figure.
